The MelonMan takes time off to celebrate the 4th of July and shows how to hide from the Sun.

The melons were put on the back burner during the 4th of July holiday. Some of you may remember that I am a Pyrotechnician and donate many hours to the community shooting professional fireworks shows. We put on three safe displays this year to the enjoyment of thousands of people. Thanks to Jimmie and Daniel Pharris and to Billy Palmer for your six safe years of entertainment for the Sikeston community. Our team shirts say it all:

Xplosives Xpert If you see me running try to keep up!

It's time to get down to serious business now. The melons are growing at a tremendous pace and we need to encourage them for their full potential. Tina and I have put tables over each melon to protect them from the harsh rays of sun during the dog days of summer. As an added precaution we staple burlap sacks on the east and west sides of the table for all day protection. Sort of a sunscreen ... literally.

There is nothing more heart-breaking than to find a camouflaged melon of giant proportions sapping pounds away from the Chosen One. Perhaps my poor eyesight at this stage of life factors heavily on missing such a monster!
