2004 Season Finale
The 2004 season is a wrap and although I didn't make the record this year, I recorded alot of smiles and new friends along the way!

It's been a very difficult season and my largest melon weighed in at 156 pounds. I had twelve melons on five vines that weighed between 102 pounds and 156 pounds. They made very good donations to several worthy causes. Remember you make a living with what you get and a life by what you give. Scott Robb, a friend of mine in Palmer, Alaska set a new world record cantaloupe this season and deserves a round of applause for all his efforts! Scott and I have corresponded for some time now and he is a very generous person with a green thumb. Congrats to Scott and his family!
The Big News from where I sit.... I am on the move again to the State of Kentucky! So with that in mind it looks as though I will be out of cyberspace for a short while during the transition. Thanks to all who have written about their accomplishments and all the nice notes that have helped me keep my spirits up and moving foward over the last couple of seasons. It's been a tough couple of years but no one said life was easy. You can rest assured that I will be toiling in the Kentucky soil soon as I continue my quest for a new world record sized watermelon! As my friend and mentor Bill Carson says....if you step up to the plate often enough eventually you'll hit one out of the park!

Susie Kindle at Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, Missouri, entertained thousands of diners over the Labor Day weekend with this 150 pound melon. Susie is one of my very favorite girls who always makes you smile and feel welcome.

Two melons went to middle Illinois for a festival and were received by my Uncle Jim Palmer and Margie Pope. I really enjoyed my visit with two of the finest people I've ever known.

Now that's a load even for a 3/4 ton truck! These five melons made it to the Memphis area for several worthy causes.

My biggest melon this season went to the staff where my father, Judge Dwyer, is currently undergoing dialysis treatments three days a week. Thanks to all the great people taking care of Papa for me. :-)
