Memphis and Big Melons

It's getting to the end of the 2003 season and I took a trip to Memphis to see family and friends and of course I took along some big melons. And it's harvest time with friends bring in big ones of their own.

My friend, Philip Lawrence of Elmwood Tennessee, donated a 148 pound giant for his nephew's wedding who then had it artistically sculptured into a beautiful fruit boat with a heart. Now that's really cool!

I made a trip to Memphis, Tennessee recently with a few giant melons and saw a lifelong friend, Paul Chambers, while there. The stories we can swap send chills down my spine now! How did we ever survive? Those were the days..........:-)

I also got to visit with my father, Judge Robert k. Dwyer, and my sister B. I was taking my mother to the airport so she could visit my brother in Las Vegas. I didn't think we would ever get this photo because of all the people gathered around such a giant spectacle!

My friend, Pam Hunter, enjoyed seeing my 184 pound melon currently on display at Boomland in Charleston, Missouri.

I also have a 180 pound melon currently on display at Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, Missouri.

The season has come to an end and now's it's time for fall activities at Beggs Pumpkin Patch in Blodgett, Missouri. Owners Donnie and Sheila Beggs loaded 166 semi-trailers full of watermelons this season! Wow!!!!!

What a sight.... a double rainbow over the East sky. I believe my biggest melon of the year awaits at the end of this rainbow and has now made it to 66" in circumference! Stay tuned for the weigh-in to see just how BIG it is............

If at first you don't succeed........slide for second!
