Pulling melons from the patch

We pulled a few melons from the patch for Labor Day to donate to worthy charities. I go on a ride harvesting corn, show of my new kitty, and still have a few bigguns left growing in the patch.

I recently harvested a 172 pound melon and donated it to St. Francis Xavier parish in Sikeston, Missouri for a fund raiser. Helping me draw the winning name is my friend Lance Garrett who enjoyed seeing the melon on display. The winner of this giant melon graciously donated it to Steve Fowler at the Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Steve was pleasantly shocked when St. Francis Xavier's new acolyte intern, Benjamin Darnell and I, delivered it to him last week for a Labor day party.

The corn harvest is underway in the Missouri bootheel. It's fascinating to ride in this massive combine with my friend Bob Laseter and watch all the action from 10 feet above ground!

The eight row header gobbles up all the stalks, separates the corn and then deposits the residue over the field in record time. Keep on farmin' Farmer Bob!

Well I wasn't a cat fan until recently when a kitty stowed away in a camper trailer I hauled back from East Tennessee. The cute little fuzzy kitty adopted me right away and sits in my lap every time I get on the computer and sleeps on my head at night. :-) She has been quite a comfort after the tough times lately.

I pulled three more melons last week from one vine that weighed 118, 122 and 142 pounds that went to several Labor Day parties.

I still have four giants gaining weight one which is now over 65 inches in circumference! How BIG will it get??????????
