I visit a professional melon grower, help out a bird in trouble, show a few pictures of my own patch, and visit Nashville with a friend.

My friend, Donnie Beggs of Beggs Melon Company in Blodgett, Missouri, is having a tremendous season!

Donnie is shipping watermelons to Texas! Now that's a first!!! Of course once they taste how good these Bootheel melons are they will want them year after year.

Bad weather across the country has created a shortage of melons this season. I really enjoy this time of year and living in melon country!

This baby dove couldn't stay in the nest during a violent storm last week and crashed onto the floor of my flatbed trailer. I stepped in and made it a small nest; fed it a few bugs and then mom and dad continued to care for it!

Talk about a success story. :-) I guess I'm a softie sometimes.....

Now here's a look at one of my melons this season. This giant is currently 61 inches in circumference and slated for a church fundraiser next weekend. My neighbor Cheryl has been avidly watching and learning how to grow giants this season.

Look out for our newest contender next year! Any guesses as to the weight?

I went down to Tennessee with my good friend Larry and stopped off in Nashville to see my webmaster, Mark, at work. Here's Larry pitching in to help give some Nashvillians some good ole' Missouri melons.

Thumbs up to all our fellow melon growers!

Saying of the week: The grass may seem greener on the other side of the fence but remember it has to be mowed also!
