You know when the temperatures go up here in the Heartland by the honeybees gathering outside their hive!

It's remarkable how they fan their wings to maintain a constant temperature inside their home.

We have a cantaloupe growing on the north side of the melon patch that's getting quite large. Yum!

Tina starts measuring the melons we have set to monitor their rapid development. They are gaining approx. 3 pounds a day right now......wow!

Nitro!!!! a melon patch nightmare!!!!

Larry Donchin shows our readers a Stars & Stripes watermelon. He also recommends a variety called Gold Strike that has orange flesh and matures in 80 days. Thanks for the info Larry.

Reader Jeff Kiser from South Carolina sent us this interesting picture of a double ovary found in his patch earlier this season. Mother-Nature can produce some strange oddities.

Click on a picture to see it full-sized.
