Flowering melons, Finches and Friends

The melons are flowering, the finches have hatched and friends are sending in pictures of their melons. Take a look!

Two of our melon plants have finally displayed male flowers.


One of the plants has produced two ovaries (tiny melons) one node apart on the same leader. This is very usual. I've never seen this before.


Mother Finch's babies have hatched and she is diligently working to feed the four hungry mouths.




Notice the cozy nest with Nitro's hair supplying the bedding.


There's fierce competition growing in Louisiana. Daryl (Big Dog) Burnthorn the defending champion of the Farmerville Louisiana Watermelon Festival is shown here with a great prospect for this years competition.
