It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature

Mother Nature strikes yet again with heavy rains but the melons ride it out.

As usual, Mother Nature strikes the melon patch with a vengeance.


The heavens opened and two inches of rain fell in five minutes' time severing the tiny melons that were plumping up nicely. Cool temperatures persisted for two more weeks shutting production down.


This is Karen Ervin with the Missouri Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures. She will be calibrating the scales once again in anticipation of a New World Record. Thanks Karen for your enthusiasm and job well done.


Nitro enjoys the melons that get sent flying out of the patch.


Nitro jealously guards his collection and checks them daily.


The Sun has returned and with it 90-plus degree days. Hopefully our plants will recover quickly!
