Kicking off the 2001 season
It's time to get the patch ready for the new season…and meet NITRO!

Were starting off on our mad quest again this year for a new world record watermelon. Tina has once again allowed me to commandeer her dining room with my seed germination bed and associated equipment to get going.

To me its fine equipment.. to her a BIG mess of junk! We started our seeds in the final week of March and hope to be planting by the 20th-25th of April.

This year we have a new addition to our family. Nitro!!! who is an American Rare Breed , Shiloh Shepherd. (you can find out more about this breed by clicking here). It has been a test of patience so far trying to communicate with a nine week old puppy that's nothing more than fur and TEETH! If our plants survive (or even us) it will be a miracle!!!!

We had a fellow giant melon grower from middle Tennessee visit us. Philip Lawrence made the trek to the Missouri bootheel to swap stories and advice for the Big-One this year. Good luck to Philip who donates his melons for charity and all the other growers out there that I have corresponded with through the years.
Now let's bring on the heat and sweat and have some fun! |
