Giant Watermelons of Hope, Arkansas

"BTW", another melon has been harvested

We visit "Zeppelin", now on public display, and pull "BTW" from the fields.

The end of the season brings about many emotions from relief, sadness, joy and new excitement. I can truly say that a well deserved break is necessary to catch up on chores that were let go during the growing season. The field looks sad as the giants disappear one by one. We derive great joy when we donate and display our massive oddities of nature. The excitement these melons generate make all the hard work worth while. Zeppelin is on display at "Boomland" in Charleston, Missouri and is thrilling young and old alike. Wallace Reeves, the owner of Boomland, quips that Zeppelin has received attention by busloads of patrons from all across the country.

Dr. Masters, M.D. and his family received our donation of a 165 pound giant. The MelonMan wants to thank Dr. Masters for his continued personal and professional care over this past year during our time of need. The MelonMan and Tina are pictured with Jonnie Peeler and Dr. Masters.

"BTW" was harvested on September 2nd and weighed in at a whopping 192 pounds! Judge David Dolan, his wife Julie and their daughter Claire helped harvest this melon which was donated to them. As with most people, they were in shock to see just how huge these watermelons can grow. Their excitement was contagious as they drove away eager to show off what appears to be an unreal example of Mother Nature's powers.

"Catchup" looks lost as the last melon in a sea of vines all to itself. The heat appears to have slowed its growth considerably, but not completely. Are we in record territory? We'll soon know as the suspense continues!!!
